Pre & After Care

Caring for your body before and after getting a tattoo is essential to achieving the best possible results. Follow these steps to prepare for your tattoo appointment.

Pre-Care Instructions

  • Ensure you’re relaxed, rested, and mentally prepared for your appointment by getting a full night’s sleep beforehand.

  • Arrive freshly showered with clean clothes.

Avoid applying products like moisturiser, sunscreen, or fake tan to the area being tattooed on the day of your appointment.

Wear comfortable clothing that provides easy access to the tattoo location.

  • Be punctual by arriving 10 minutes before your scheduled time (no earlier).

Research parking options and the studio’s location to avoid any last-minute stress.

  • Eat a healthy meal before your appointment and drink plenty of water to keep your blood sugar levels stable.

Bring sugary snacks to help you stay energised during longer sessions.

Avoid alcohol and blood-thinning medications (e.g., ibuprofen) at least 24 hours before your appointment.

  • Though not necessary, feel free to bring something to keep you occupied, such as a book, headphones, or even a cosy blanket to stay relaxed during your session.

  • Moisturise the tattoo area in the days leading up to your appointment to ensure hydrated skin.

Avoid using any lotions on the day of your session.

Do not get sunburned; tattoos cannot be performed on sunburned skin.

Aftercare Instructions

  • At the end of your appointment, your tattoo will be covered with plastic wrap. Keep it on for about 1 hour post-appointment.

  • After removing the wrap, gently wash the tattoo with warm water and scent-free, non-exfoliating soap. Repeat this process daily.

  • After 2–3 days, your tattoo will naturally become dry, flaky, or scab-like. Begin applying a light layer of gentle moisturiser (e.g., Cetaphil, Sorbolene, Vitamin E, cocoa/shea butter) daily until fully healed.

  • Stay out of the sun, avoid fake tanning, and refrain from swimming until your tattoo is completely healed.

Do not scratch, itch, or pick at the tattoo while it’s healing.

  • Avoid heavy exercise, excessive sweating, or activities that raise your blood pressure immediately after getting your tattoo. These can push ink out of your skin.

Avoid heavy drinking during the healing process.

  • Natural ink drop-out can occur, especially with fine line tattoos, even with the best aftercare. If you need a touch-up, fill out the form on the Services page and include a recent photo of the healed tattoo to book the appropriate time.
